Frequently asked questions

How do I enable ShelfBee in Safari?
On iPhone or iPad: open the Settings app → Safari → Extensions → turn on ShelfBee. On Mac: open Safari → Settings → Extensions → check ShelfBee. You may also need to grant permission for it to run on specific sites the first time you visit them.
Which libraries does ShelfBee support?
ShelfBee works with any public library that uses OverDrive or Libby for digital lending — which covers most public library systems in the US, Canada, UK, and Australia. Set your library in the ShelfBee app and it'll handle the rest.
Why is a book showing as unavailable when I can see it in Libby?
Library catalog data can take a few minutes to sync. Try refreshing the page, or tap the ShelfBee icon in Safari's toolbar to re-check. If the discrepancy continues, let us know and include the book's title.
Does ShelfBee work on iPad?
Yes. ShelfBee is a universal app and works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Enable it in Safari's extension settings on each device.
Does ShelfBee collect my browsing data?
No. ShelfBee reads only the book title and ISBN from supported pages to check library availability. That data goes from your device directly to your library's servers — not to us. We have no backend and collect no personal data. Read the full privacy policy for details.
Which websites does ShelfBee work on?
Version 1 supports Amazon, Goodreads and StoryGraph. More sites — including Barnes & Noble, Google Books, and others — are on the roadmap. If there's a site you'd like supported, let us know.
How do I change my library?
Open the ShelfBee extension within Safari on your device. You can search for and select a new library there. The change takes effect immediately across the extension.
